So there’s a story here about my last day in Switzerland, specifically in Geneva. As I found out in less desirable terms, Geneva shuts down pretty much after 10pm. Buses stop running, people desert the streets and there’s this eerie feeling of emptiness– which is also how I felt.

Here’s the story: after a quick dinner with a friend in downtown Geneva that ended just after 11pm, I tried to grab the #3 bus to get back to Markus’ dorm room where I was crashing. Other than by way of mass transit or aligning myself with the stars, I had no idea where his place was. This proved problematic as the buses weren’t running anymore (night buses are non-existent on weekdays) and there were no stars.

Thankfully, Geneva (and most of Europe for that matter) still relies on streetcars with those ugly overhead electrical cables. So for 2 hours, in the pouring rain (not a drizzle either, nope, that would have been too easy), I walked following the streetcar cables and eventually found my way back to the dorm room. I was soaked, I was tired, I was sick and I had a plane to catch 4 hours later.

Shitty ending to Switzerland, I’ll say, but that doesn’t change how much I just loved the country!
