Plain and simple: I am Sébastien Thomas, 25 year old kid currently living in the beautiful plateau Mont-Royal in Montréal, Canada.
I’ve been seeing my life develop in the downtown core of this beautiful city for the last 7 years after receiving a job offer too good to refuse and have never looked back. Likely never will. I come from the likes of Toronto (8 years in the Canadian financial New-York-City-wanna-be), and Ottawa (7 years this time around for the quaint family capital), but was born in a small town of a few thousand inhabitants called Kapuskasing in mid-northern Ontario. GoogleMap it for kicks.
I studied management at McGill, but first dropped out of my Ottawa-based high school in lieu of a good paying job which turned into a great career at a Bell Canada affiliate, Bell ICT. Im a senior systems analyst and although I love my work I have thoughts of running my own show at some point. Until the financial part of being your own boss can get sucked in, Bell’s the place I’ll be doing my eight to four with occasional pager duty.
Fortunately, I already run a small business on the side hoping it will rapidly replace the telecom giant. And this may end up happening sooner than expected seeing a recent upswing in demand of my services. Thomas Property Management Ltd was officially launched back on April 1st 2004, and has been no joke since. As the name states, I manage yearly and seasonal rental properties as well as condo boards for owners too busy or uninterested in figuring out the paperwork and coordination efforts required in keeping a building in tip-top shape.
Photography is my definite hobby. Practicing as often as my shutter can let me, I take pictures of just about anything. I really enjoy sporting events and portraits, but have a bigger penchant for outdoor scenery, architecture and metropolitan shots. This goes really well with my addiction to traveling as it creates great opportunities to capture the world one JPG at a time. Although I’m nowhere close in skill and experience of a pro photographer (I like the prosumer title), I do some random freelance work and have seen a few of my slides published in magazines and newspapers. Right now, I’m shooting with a Canon 20D, two Tamron lenses (an 11-18mm f4.5-5.6 and a 28-75mm f2.8) and a Canon Speedlight 580EX.
All this and yet I still only work to live. So when the job is done, my friends show up to keep me sane. They come from a variety of backgrounds, but I like to hold on to the simple ones, those whom you don’t have to run after, those whom are there when you need them, those whom are just plain down to earth folks. Personality wise, I say what’s on my mind, and expect those around me to do the same. Why should we complicate life with this whole politically correct business and hiding behind an image of us that’s not? Well, you’ll definitely get to meet these fine individuals through the flood of pictures that this site will have, or get to see some of them on the social network I tend to visit every once in a while, facebook. Without them, I would not be who I am today.
Well, that’s enough for now. Why spoil all the fun of figuring out who the heck I am on one page? Go through the photoblog, look at the gallery and email/msn me if you’d like to know more! I’m always open to meeting new people and appreciate everyone who takes the time to look at my little world.
